A REAL MAN JAMES ARNESS and now look at the sleaazy genneration we have now.tv filth, movie filth and the end of AMERICA UNLESS WE DO SOMETHING TO STOP IT ALL NOW.
This wasn't the Tonight Show, this was the prime time Johnny Carson Show, which flopped, flushing Carson down into hosting game shows until Jack Paar retired.
Jim Arness started out on radio, so he had a great voice, too. So he could have done Dillion on the radio, too. Loved Conrad's growl. In the early days. Arness even kept that edginess of the radio Dillion.
It's crazy, but hear Arness talk, it's like he was born to play Matt Dillon. It must be the effect of growing up during the 20-year run of the TV series. But, don't forget the radio Gunsmoke show which ran for almost a decade, and was the prequel to the TV version. The two shows even overlapped by 6-years. You youngsters can find all 400+ radio episodes on the web for download.
