@rivkah Great advice! I love both this movie and "Arranged."
-
@shadowkitty56 that is so interesting, i had no idea! Thanks so much for your explanations. very intruiging!

@rivkah If she is using incense like I think she is, it is a possibility: Catholics don't burn incense in their houses. Incense is mostly used for very special occasions like Easter or Xmas, rarely funerals. It is used for blessing things and only a PRIEST can do this.
-
@rivkah Not necessarily. I myself am a Catholic and I possess none of those things in my home, just a plain wooden cross over my bed. What you see is common in Hispanic homes: small devotional altars with figures of saints and martyrs.
-
@rivkah Piece of advice: try to see if you can find one with chicken in it. You'll be just fine.

i love the spanish mother; though why does she light so many candles and do those things with incence, it is catholicism no?
if you guys like this movie, i think you will also like the film 'arranged' about a friendship between an orthodox jewish girl and a muslim girl. really nice film.

It could also be a Santería altar. Santería is a hybrid religion invented by slaves in the Spanish Caribbean. They had to hide African religion under the guise of Catholicism. Some Puerto Ricans still practice it. CONTD
