the first part of a Documentary i made about my dads ceramics.

This film was made to offer thanks to my Father for inspiring me. I grew up watching my father make beautiful objects from clay this set me off on a path of visual discovery. 'Earthen' is my exploration of my fathers ceramics and the creative process.

  • Except from Bob Young's poem.

See how he punctures pain spots lovingly

into the surface, so the pieces were each unique. Hear how each was crackle fired

like the beginning of the earth. See him spray color on the various yous and set them free to bubble and bibble and bobble close to destruction under the flood of the waterfall with its base of rock. Some of them will have cracked and been used as a shelter by frog spawn.

remind me was your father a member of uriah heep in the early 70's.

  • What an absolute treat to be able to watch your dad working - really interesting stuff there and, as always, filmed in your breathtakingly beautiful style. Unique ceramics and unique filming. I've just finished watching the Earthen series and it really has been a pleasure. Thanks for sharing with the world on YouTube.

  • I can't find words...

So much sensuality, so much beauty. The way you filmed your dad's hands and the clay (you feel the clay, you are the clay), is magical. And the music..

    Pure art!

  • oops dropped an E again

  • It is white gold. Fantastic clip. Still my Fav. youtube clip.

    Cheers, Andrew.

  • I just saw Geoffrey's work in the book Porcelain and Bone China. :-)
