Based on Rosanne Cash's version of 500 Miles (Away From Home) originally by Hedy West or possibly Bobby Bare, and covered by many others including Peter Paul and Mary.
The boring details: This is almost more of an exorcism than a recital! I heard Rosanne Cash interviewed on NPR and was fascinated by "The List" (100 songs her father told her were essential to know). Then I heard her version of 500 miles and just could not get it out of my head--I heard it day and night. So, the only way I could get any peace was to bang it out on piano and ship it off :-)
A note on the arrangement--I abbreviated the song somewhat. Also it seems the song doesn't really have a chorus per se--basically just paired and slightly different verses. The Cash version has nice instrumental interludes between some verses, however, so I included a modified version of one of those for variety.
Recorded on a Kodak Zi8 with a Sony ECM-DS70P mic. I was trying out the mic for the first time ever and based on this recording quality I think I'll need to upgrade to a better mic for recording music. This was about take #8 with no score--please keep in mind that I'm just an amateur playing for fun.
Oh, one other thing--I enjoy chord progressions that march up and down scales and I noticed a touch of that in Cash's version, so I couldn't resist extending that in the last two verses. If you notice, the chords go sequentially all the way down from G below C to the D more than an octave below. A little forced, but kind of fun :-)
Buy Rosanne Cash's "The List"!

@JillXGreen Thanks. Sorry I don't have music for it--it was improvised.

This is awesome, i'm trying to learn it on the piano. What key are you playing in?

@MrWalrus9 Thanks. It's in C. After the intro, the 1st verse chords (if I hear them right, listening to the playback as I type this) are C Am F Dm F F G. A very popular and classic chord progression . . .

That's really wonderfull ! I've listened it for many times. I'm wondering if you have the sheet music for this version ? Many thanks in advance.

@namoocean Thanks for the compliment! I don't have any sheet music for this version--it's just improvised with highly arpeggiated chords (C, Am, F, Dm, etc.). If I ever record another version with a better microphone, I'll maybe post the complete chords.
