This video slideshow chronicles my 2008 winter adventure on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail and marks my YouTube debut.

Enjoy my photographs, favorite hiking music, and commentary from my 2 month, 477-mile hike and 238-mile bike ride from the Outer Banks to the Blue Ridge Mountains! If you would like to read about my adventures, get recommendations on day and weekend trips along the trail, and read my backpacking advice and philosophy, check out my blog at http://hikingNC.blogspot.com

Please support the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. This trail is a real gem, but in need of a little more love and development.

You may NOT use any of my photographs without my permission.

  • I just did 1080 miles on the at.. I just found out the mountains to sea trail goes right near my house and now I want to hike that even though most of its on the road

  • @jliam75 There is a guy who has hiked it 2 or 3 times who wrote a book on the trail. His trail name is Taba. His name is Scott Ward. I did a mail drop for him once. He's a professional hiker.

  • I went by Stone Mtn (NC State Park) today and walked a little on the MST. It's snow covered and there were no tracks in the snow except for a deer tracks and some "paw" tracks. Beautiful area...cold...but beautiful!

  • There is a guy who has walked it a few times. I met him on the journey and picked up a mail drop for him. His first name is Scot Ward."Taba" is his trail name. He has written a guide book for the MST.

  • Great Video!

  • Well... there have only been 13 people who have thruhiked the trail (myself excluded of course). I think most (if not all) of them road-walked.

  • Most of the mountain and coastal sections are continuous, but there are a lot of gaps in the Piedmont... it's part of the adventure - I rode a bicycle through that portion

  • Oh! My buddy and I are gonna do that in the spring!
