No thumb guard or glove? Ask Pete LeClaire, CCA member, about the blood infection that landed him in the hospital after those micro skin slices allowed enough bacteria in to almost kill him!!! New carvers, always wear thumb protection and a glove....foolish behavior.

Hey I just found out I have a tiny bit of Irish in me (but I'm 98 percent Mexican, Spanish and Aztec) and decided to start whittling, but I see lots of videos of people using "store bought" looking wood and also using a bad saw and a whittling specific knife. Is it alright if I randomly see a piece of wood on my mile walk to high school and pick it up and us that? And also if a use a Swiss amry knife?

Hello, you can make a walking stick with a snake on it, I show this in one of my vids, Make sure the knife is sharp. Have fun and be safe.

Hello, glad you are interested in carving. I started carving a long time ago with a pocket knife and a stick. Having a sharp knife is the key. Also, I have made fixed blade knives from hack saw blades. Good luck and be safe carving!!
