this version is for sesame street I can just imagine big bird telling this one.

This version, I believe, was written by Oscar Brown, Jr. It is a clean version written for his first LP (1960), and in the 80s I often saw him perform it for children.

This takes me back, my dad used to get stoned and recite different "signifying monkey" poems. Signifying Monkey would get up to all kinds of mischief.

Best rendition of the story I ever heard...back in the '50's there was a song out about it.

Porky Chedwick used to play it on his DJ music show from Pittsburgh.
