Back with Dave Lenat in the Gearwire studio, we continue our look at the new Line 6 POD HD500. In Part 1 we listened to some of the new "HD" amp models; now we're taking a look at the advanced looper functions, which include 1/2 speed and reverse functions, as well as the ability to place the looper pre or post amp and effects.

Dave also treats us to some of the POD HD500's factory presets, including a virtual amp and pedal board rig that'll have you doing an impressive Hendrix impression. We also check out a few presets with some more, shall we say, specialized applications.

  • i dont know. i thought it sound bad. Is it stock preset/patches?? Does tweaking it will make it sound better or good??

  • @064panik ..Hi i'm thinking of getting one but have had troubkle in the past with getting a good frequency in the past when tried one.. Every time i've tried a pod it's always had a nasaly, frequency that hurts the ears! especially on gain.. Now, i believe you that it's a good unit but tell me please, what was i doing wrong with the unit?? I only used it in a shop so didn't have much time on it, but i gave up coz the frequencies were awful sounding..

  • My best luck getting good sounds was to build presets from scratch. Go to line6.com for manuals and additional presets/updates. It's much easier with a p.c. and the free editing software ("Line 6 pod HD500 edit". Also download monkey and anything else available from that site. I think this unit was designed primarily for direct-to-board or pc use. It sounds better out-of-the box that way - even the headphone output helped me get started. But once mastered it's very powerful.

  • @johnaiton Did you not listen to it?

  • This compared to axe fx ultra its the same in tone and effects... The axe its more organic but you got to be very very picky to notice diference

  • Sounds like a fart in a box.

They should have hired an actual guitar player.

  • ur using a variax though....should use a normal guitar to see the differences too
