That comment was so ill-informed I'm stunned. Yes, Chromium OS is linux. As such it's just like any other linux: open source and free of charge. They aren't selling anything but hardware. You also clearly don't understand the design goals and purpose of Chromium OS. It's to have an internet appliance OS that's simple, stable, secure, fast, light, and I'm sure a few more words might apply. Generic linux won't work for "normal" users, it's way too complex and requires too much computer knowledge.

If you have a 64 bit architecture computer, you can download chrome OS for ubuntu 12.10 (for free). You don't have to have a chromebook or chromebox to use chrome OS.

Unfortunately, I don't have a 64 bit computer (I have a potato), but I do use ubuntu linux (with gnome) as my main computer.
