my first bit of super 8, to test if my £30 ebay purchase works - and it does!

shot on the Canon 814 autozoom and ektachrome 64T at 18fps and with the auto-iris.

processed and telecined by The Widescreen Centre, London, UK (recommended)

  • Focus - yes its hard if you are zoomed in, but stay wide and you shouldn't have a problem

Yes she is my girlfriend, I am very lucky.

64T is not very grainy at all, quite the opposite....the higher the number the more grainy.

    Thanks all!

  • Thanks again for the nice comments. I realise i havent answered any questions in a while so let me have a go now...

No colour correction - shot this before i knew anything about CC...this is the look straight out of the camera, although i am unsure what was done at the widescreen centre when they telecined. Not too keen on their telecine actually, not much contrast and a whitish sheen over it all....have since had other super 8 telecine done which is much nicer.

  • Hi there,

very nice footage. But where is the grain of the filmstock? E64T normally is extremely grainy isn't it? Does the youtube compression "swallow" it??

    Greets

  • thanks for your comments. Indeed the horrible compression that youtube apply has turned the grain into more of a sheen, but to be honest i was surprised at how little grain there was in the reel. I think maybe the camera i used gives very 'clean' results compared to the rough and ready look that some lower-end cameras give - there was no flickering artifacts at the edge of the frame or any scratches at all. but yeah, the grain is non-existent in this streaming example.

  • How long does it take for The Widescreen Centre to process and telecine, and return back?

  • @ToothGrinderFilms Hello, did you shoot this just with the "Daylight" switch turned on. Or did you even add another brown filter over it? Or did you do any grading on the computer, after it was telecined? I'm gong to shoot some Super 8 for a short film, and I really want to try for that look in shot 0:57. I've got a bunch of 64t. And I guess this was shot at a really nice time of day (a bit later in the afternoon?). Just wondering if you used another filter, or anything. :) Thanks!

  • 2:17 blows my mind. What perfect lips. Adorable.

And I love the shot at 0:55. Magical colors and lighting. Wow.

  • Beautiful. The movie has a soul.

  • This looks wonderful. Did you apply much correction in post?

  • I just bought this camera as a step up from the Eumig, can only hope I get results half as beautiful as this. Great test reel!

  • what song is that?

  • Where'd you find the film?
