You don't get better than Pletnev. An astonishing musician, and also a pianist of such remarkable ability that the reminds me in live performance of Ashkenazy in the 60s and 70s!

magnifique

the descending whole steps at 1:33 work so well. Are those clarinets and flutes?

it was the Pletnev recording of R's 3rd Symphony on Deutsche Grammaphon that made the most lasting impression for this listener. I try not to accord excessive accolades based upon personal taste. But something in me that is universal and common to us all demands the attention of all reasonable thinkers. And the conclusion to be reached without too much trouble is that Pletnev, essentially and unabashedly, rocks!

I haven't heard those versions.I continue thinking Pletnev is a great conductor.Maybe If I would heard them,I liked them.

The live Dimitri Mitropoulos/NY Philharmonic version is the greatest of them all, IMO; Svetlanov and Sanderling are pretty great as well, and I agree with you about Eugene Ormandy. Pletnev is expressive, but often stops the flow of the music for "effects" that I don't like; this is NOT rubato, IMO.

Pletnev,Ashkenazy,Ormandy rule this piece!
