Farmers in Trans- Nzoia County have been asked to take advantage of carbon credit markets and plant indigenous trees on their farms. Speaking during the launch of a tree planting initiative by The International Small Group and Tree Planting Program, Forestry and Wildlife Minister Dr. Noah Wekesa encouraged farmers to plant trees on 10% of their farms so as to help the Government to increase the country's forest cover from 2 to 10 percent as outlined in vision 2030. According to the head of TIST, farmers will be given a monetary reward of each tree they plant. The amount of money increases depending on how well one takes care of their trees and sees them through maturity. Already 6,500 farmers countrywide have been enrolled in the programme. Farmers from Meru region have already started benefiting from the program.

carbon credits are a failure. this is good, but then again not good. Doesn't change the fact that multinationals are still contributing to carbon emissions.

These people (gava) are always behind! first you said we have started growing sunflowers, now we are to receive money for planting trees. i'd say you are 5 years behind.
