This Wega B 4610 is recording an Emtec PER528 broadcast tape @ high recording levels. the recorder is recalibrated by myself.

I'm still looking for some original NAB-Adaptors and original take-up reel.

This wega is a recorder from the 70's. It's a black copy of the Sony TC-755

  • The record level is too high. The vu shoudn't pass the red zone at a correct record.

  • When Using PER528 Broadcast tape you can record much louder until +8db without distortion. The VU's indicate only +3 at max.

Even a Maxell UD/XLI, BASF/Emtec LPR could have recording at +3. Above this volume the sound will be distorted.

  • hence the name sony wega?

  • Then I hope you've adjusted the levels of your bias/erase oscillator to suit the permittivity of THAT tape or you'll still run into distortion. And can the machine's head driver amps take that level? Sorry, but as an audio engineer of 38 years' professional experience, I just do not accept that ANY open reel recorder can work adequately at +8dB.
