The horrid ones are the 6cyl & 8cyl Merc 4spd with cable throttle that always start off in 2nd from a stop unless u floor them for kickdown. This was the case until late '96 when they all went to 5spd with electronic throttle which finally started off in 1st most of the time.

Further to the above, once you get used to the thottle movement it's fine, though must be a bit slower due to the time it takes to push the thottle threw such a long throw.

Wait till you drive the W140 S-Class. It's a lot worse than than the W210 E-Class.

Does the amg have the horrid thottle other Mercs are stuck with. After coming from turbo subbies to a w210 Merc,the subby touch the thottle and instant response, merc, touch and nothing, push and nothing, push a lot further and finally it responds, like the guy in the left lane.
