I thought I would do a cover of this awesome dance song with a rock harp twist. Unfortunately my equipment right now doesn't allow me to record live with a video camera (due to feedback with the harp/pedal effects and the fact my equipment is about as good as a tin can and string) so please forgive the rough lip sync. If it's bothersome just listen and don't watch :)

Thank you Rihanna, Calvin Harris and Def Jam peeps for giving us this fantastic song. I hope you like my version.

The distortion effects you hear are created by plugging in the pickup on my harp to Logic Studio on my computer and then messing around :)

  • You need a big blue along with a loop machine! Then you could do all of this live (well most of it!) I haven't seen a lot of looping with the harp but there are a lot of cellists using it to great effect (check out zoe keating really neat stuff that I think could really be unique on the harp with the many great musical tones and sounds the harp can make.

And some harp-looping (not the same pop style as you but neat nevertheless)

  • @hmr28 Thanks for sharing that! I have heard Chris Lancaster's looped harp music and loved it. Zoe's is really divine. That kind of experimentation is definitely the direction I'm headed in, I just have to wait until I have money for all the equipment :)

  • Rad! I really like this babe.

  • @RyanWilliamMooney Aww thanks Ryan! To be honest I'm scared sh*tless to be venturing into pop music. I love it but there are some really GOOD people out there already, like you :)

  • Dear R.P.B.

Ilove the way you play the harp and sing. The harp.is one of my favorite music instruments and you play it amazingly. You are a very gifted artist; it is a pleasure to listen to your music and to watch you playing.I send you my greetings, my respect and my heart from the countri of Ferenc Liszt and Zoltán Kodály, many thousands miles away from the place where you live.I might have fallen in love...

    I will wright...

  • Love this. Fantastic :-)

  • Wow, sounds AWESOME!

  • @RussellPatrickBrown there are also talentless awful people making money off of the populous when there is a talent as great as yours let it shine. You are awesome and music is fun, don't be fooled by a genre.
