This is what I think of the "Get a Mac" ads by Apple.

They disgust me.

Most of the Apple commercials are very well made, but this series of ads irritates me. And so I am forced to make fun of them. This is a parody and not meant to be taken seriously. The violence you see is a metaphor for me destroying Macs with my visual effects, an achievement that many Mac fans claim to be superior at. I am really killing myself (since I play all the parts) which also shows that Macs and PCs are both personal computers. I am in no way suggesting violence against real people, especially in regards to their choice of computer.

Computers are tools, and I firmly believe that the skills of the person using those tools will always trump the tool itself. It is the artist who creates, not the computer. If you learn how to use your tools, whatever ones you may have, then you can do anything you want.

I do have a preference for PCs for many reasons, but I use Macs just as often and equally well. All of the points made in the dialog are based on opinion. Sure you can customize a PC much more than a Mac, but whether or not you think that is a positive thing, is purely your opinion based on your needs and preferences. Some people enjoy doing that, some do not. However it is not necessary to hate one brand because you like the other competitor. You are only limiting yourself if you stick to solely one product from such a vast selection.

If you are wondering why, as an artist, I don't prefer to use a Mac, here is one of many reasons why:

I don't feel the need to belong to anything, least of all a brand. I guess I just don't, "Get it." Fanatics of any cult, brand or religion disgust me. I have better things to do with my time. I have things to create.

Does the "i" in iMac stand for internet?

"iMac comes from the marriage of the excitement of the INTERNET, with the simplicity of the MAC." -Steve Jobs: Introducing the first iMac.

INTERNET + MAC = iMac

Watch the video yourself and quit telling me that the 'i' doesn't stand for 'internet'. I didn't make the dumb shit up, I just did the research and found out what it really means. If you don't like it, go bitch at Steve.

  • you see its precisly these kinds of arrogant videos that are the reason for all this competition between windows users and users of osx

i mean i use both on a daly basis and when i come home to my mac i feel refreshed because of the beauty and ease of user the reliability and the pure power of osx

how ever i also know the need for windows however this does not mean that either is better just that they fit different needs for different people

and macs can play games just as well...

  • Exactly! And let's not forget who started these "arrogant" videos; Apple.

I also use both PCs and Macs, and likewise I too am refreshed when I return to my PCs. Every time I have to use Finder or iTunes I want to punch myself in the face. To each his own.

And no, Macs do not play games just as well. That's worse than saying consoles are just as good as a PC... Not even close. Macs don't even support a fraction of modern titles let alone have the hardware to run them at max.

  • @TheOnlyKingArthur well thats as may be but some macs have some really amazing hardware, the imac for example lol it has some really powerful internals and as far as support for games there are a few ways in which to go about it:

    1. steam/onlive

    2. wine

    3. dual booting into windows with bootcamp

there isnt really any argument in this anymore lol

i hate it when people slate on os over another

i meed windows for certain applications that are not in osx

both are good at many things

  • @glennismade You're joking right? You think the iMac has amazing hardware? Don't be ridiculous.

    1. Yes Steam is now available for OSX, but most AAA titles still aren't available on Steam for OSX.

    2. Booting into Windows defeats your argument that OSX is just as good at games. Clearly it is not if you have to boot into Windows to play your games.

    3. Lastly, I am fully aware what you can and cannot do on a Mac. My PCs can do more, for less. And they look better too :-)

  • @TheOnlyKingArthur and apple simply stated the truth for that time and they didn't slate windows they simply said macs are better for some things

macs are good for many diffarent things

lets not forget that the most popular social networking site ever (facebook) is made and hosted on a mac

and that popular game titles like COD are Coded and programed in OSX and 85% of hollywood films are produced in finalcut pro (mac only app)

windows also has similar claims to fame so neither is better

  • @glennismade I'd love to see where you get your statistics from. Avid is the dominate force in Hollywood, BY FAR, and it looks like it's going to stay that way with Apple's new butchered Final Cut Studio.

Furthermore, most popular video games are NOT created on Macs. There are an occasional few, but it is rare.

Apple is spectacular at marketing, better than anyone else. Don't be foolish enough to believe everything they tell you.

  • "apple simply stated the truth for that time and they didn't slate windows they simply said macs are better for some things"

Have you not watched any of the adverts? Nearly every one makes fun of Windows Vista or 7, specifically by name.

  • @WollyhoodStudios Wow. You sure told me... Except that you are wrong. Best audio editing = Pro Tools/Audition, best video editing = Media Composer/Premiere, best image editing = Photoshop/Illustrator/Painter, best 3D = Maya/ZBrush. Guess what? They are all available for both OSX and Windows. So how exactly are Macs "better" at these tasks??? Especially when PCs are much faster and cheaper...

Apple wants you to believe that they are the best for creative tasks, but it's not actually true.
