AD&D on the Mattel Electronics Aquarius computer. This 2nd video is actually from the same game (session) as part one. I wanted to show more of the different types of montsters, but ran out of video time, so I went ahead and killed the Dragon King for you all to see! Note that this was played on the easiest setting.

  • This is one of my favorite games ever. I still find it very playable. I love/hate playing alone in the dark, and opening a door, only to find an enemy. That monster appearing noise still bothers the hell out of me lol.

  • @psquared75 I still play this all the time, too, though mostly on the emulator. I know what you mean about being caught by a monster. It's the worst when you are low on hit points, and you get "trapped" by an monster, forced to battle it out to the death! Great stuff.

  • whats the monster at 5:05 ? i remember playing the Intellivision version of this game.

  • @DarkAngelusV

That is the sinister Dragon King. He takes the place of the INTV's Minotaur in the Aquarius version of the game

  • I wonder if you can edit some of the 8x8 characters for a Mattel Aquarius game.

  • Sadly, it is not possible to change the character set without swapping the hard-coded chip which contains them. That was the real Achilles heel for the machine. Some alternative chipsets were created for a project to use the Aquarius as a Videotext machine in New Zealand and Australia. I have the chips, but have never installed them.

  • Wow, I got this for my 11th birthday. I even got the "printer" attachment. It was like a calculator tape machine...

  • Very impressive, given the fact that all we see is done with characters (and not those ugly variably-sized rectangular pixels). No pixel, no sprite, just "text". Very constraining lovely Aquarius. Those were the days ;-)

  • This is WAY awesome!

  • Most common carts can be found on Ebay.

The emulator lets you play all known Aquarius games:

Google: James the Animal Tamer Aquarius

The emulator also lets you make real copies of cassette games for play on your real Aquarius.
