  • Throughout history, people have moved to the river banks or sea coasts when trade opened up greater economic possibilities. And they have moved back inland when trade was disrupted or reduced and they needed to revert to hunting, farming, mining and other dependencies on local resources rather than on trade. Increasing trade brings people back to the coasts or riverbanks.
