16 shot, 2 dead, in 2 hours Chicago
Man critically shot blocks from top cop's news conference
Back in Englewood, just blocks from where Moore was fatally shot, gunfire erupted near 66th Street and Marshfield Avenue about 12:50 a.m.
Police responded and found four men in their 20s shot on the street. Before the last ambulances cleared the area, more shots were fired on the same block, the Chicago Tribune reports. The police officers and other bystanders--including a video journalist--had to duck for cover. (Watch the video journalist's footage of the scene below.)
"It came from down the block. We hear this guy swearing and stuff. That's when all hell broke loose," video journalist Ken Herzlich told the Tribune. "All these bystanders and everyone hit the ground, ducking and running. A police officer helped me get out of there. No one knew what was going on. That's when the other people were hit.
"It's a miracle no police officers were hurt. It was a crazy scene," he said.
The Tribune reports that a woman suffered a graze wound and a man was shot in the buttocks in the second round of shooting.
Six people were being questioned in the incident, which appears to be gang-related.
The violence continued throughout the city overnight--with four shot outside of a sports bar near 122nd Street and Halsted Avenue and a woman being treated for a gunshot wound at Gottlieb Hospital In Melrose Park about 2 a.m. told police she was sitting in Millennium Park Downtown when she was initially shot.
The record-breaking warm day on Thursday likely contributed to the string of violent acts--and no one had been charged in any of the incidents as of 8:30 a.m. Friday.
