This year's shrimping adventure - 4 days on scenic Prince William Sound, Alaska. Rented the Forest Service cabin in Goose Bay, inside Culross Passage, and used it as a base of operations. While the shrimping was only 'OK' due to a malfunctioning depthfinder, other things more than made up for it. We were cruising in close quarters with pods of Dall's Porpoises, we saw a Bald Eagle fishing within 50' of the 'Swissy Baroo', we caught some shrimp, we saw Mountain Goats on a super steep cliff right above us while pulling pots (not on this video), strange critter caught in the pot (found to be a 'pinchbug') and just overall gorgeous scenery. Everything from sun to snow! Most is on video with my GoPro Hero HD, including a super scenic run thru part of Culross Passage and into Goose Bay at low tide, and a walkthru of the cabin.

  • So I hear you complain about the propane being out. Did you see the Fed website where it says they do not service the cabin until mid may? Looks like you went to the cabin in April. Did you check with the Feds before you went out there? They would have told you they start service mid May.

  • @lakota2001 Actually, I did. At the time I made my reservations, there was *NO* mention of it, anywhere. After our trip, we actually got a phone call from the new head of the public use cabins in PWS, randomly calling to ask people about their experience at the cabin and he watched the video, and afterwards we talked about a few things and the notice on the website was one change the happened right away. So... yes I did check.

  • Those "pinch bugs" are more commonly known as squat lobsters. That species is Munida quadrispina. They are more related to hermit crabs than lobsters. Enjoy!

  • Awesome! I am Steamboat on Cigarpass.
