Keeping your disc brakes clean is vital if you want optimum performance from them. I would recommend doing this once a week if your ride regularly.

You will need:

Disc Brake Cleaner (I highly recommend Muc Off, or you can use Isopropyl alcohol)
Clean Rags
Sand Paper

  • this is a really good tip , BUT i would NOT rub it on a brick or anything else except some straight surfaces so it can't be damaged in some places and have no contact on others

    again, nice tip

  • @agresor1982 Cheers, as long as you don't rub the pads on a really abrasive brick its completely fine. When I was working in a shop that's how we did it there.

  • @MTBwayneMTB No Problem!!

  • @TheBicycleGeek Ok will do! thanks for the advise! :)

  • @MTBwayneMTB That's okay! Glad its working. Yeah have have quite a few shirts from their site. Make sure you select the slightly higher quality cotton though, as the base level grade is quite thin. Cheers.

  • @TheBicycleGeek I got them on my pads to but i just spun the wheel and put meth spirits on and braked while bike was on stand it seemed to have done the job though the the pads need re cleaning every so often but it seems to be ok for now but i'll think about weather i should get new pads soon thanks for advise :) I'm going to buy myself that shirt!!

  • @MTBwayneMTB Hi, If you got oil on your disc then methylated spirits should do the trick, although you'd be best off using isopropyl alcohol or disc brake cleaner. If the oil is on the pads, there isn't much you can do as the oil soaks into them and is probably best to buy new ones. You could try to re surface both pads and soak them in a solvent. My T shirt was brought from the online store Zazzle. Thanks!

  • I got oil on mine by mistake :( i used methalated spirit (how ever you spell it) should that do the job! where'd you get your shirt from? :L

  • @42RANGA Thats ok. As well as Hydraulic brakes I will also do some videos on mechanical disc brakes. Thanks.
