All forms of abortion have been criminalized in Nicaragua since July 2008.

Women and girls who seek an abortion, even those pregnant as a result of rape or those whose lives or health are in danger if the pregnancy continues, now face long prison sentences.

The law also leaves women and girls who have suffered a spontaneous miscarriage vulnerable to prosecution, since they may be wrongly suspected of having induced an abortion. By banning access to abortion services to victims of sexual violence, the law condemns all pregnant rape victims, even those who are still children themselves, to carry such pregnancies to term regardless of their wishes or the risks to their physical or mental wellbeing.

  • i support Amnesty on certain issues however this is where i disagree with them. Amnesty NEEDS to realize their error in their human rights logic and start helping women who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest seek counseling and other alternatives besides abortion, those unborn children do not need to be subjected to pain. Amnesty wants to end torture but they want to continue abortion? I see a double standard.

  • @CARTER4526 Wow, that sure is a lot of pointless gibberish you're throwing out. Not to mention calls to emotion instead of trying to make an argument.

  • @trouter2000 You mean like sperm? Eggs? Cancer cells? Those are all pretty human. You want to give them rights too?

  • i really appreciate the work of my friends of Amnesty workers . I am from Pakistan and there this com-pain is the need of the time.

  • So great to be a part of Amnesty and see how we are standing together around the world in solidarity for the rights of women and girls!

  • Ditto

  • This is why I no longer support AI. They oppose the Death Penalty, people who have taken life but support abortion, support terrorist rights, this organisation is saying murdering people who murder is wrong, but murdering unborn babies is ok. After 28 days a foetus heart starts beating. Also AI always sites only one or two issues of a debate, funny they haven't mentioned women under pressure, post abortion guilt, stress etc. Using health issues to get you point across AI!

  • @trouter2000 The problem is that people only side with the grup they belong to. They dont take a step back and think for themself. People need to be natrual and only seek to bring good. As long as your reason is political/social and so on... you will never realy hellp the world. You can only replace someting bad with someting ells that is just as bad ;D

  • I'm a huge advocate of human rights, universal human dignity, the UN and the importance of rights over self interest in national politics. But abortion is a major human rights issue, nobody will talk about fetal rights because so many who do are inconsistent with applying rights in other areas. It's time we acknowledge that human dignity is universal and that all human beings - all beings with the capacity for humanity - receive protection of life
