italians shouldnt worry about the stereotypes portrayed against them. The whole world wants to be italian. They want to look, dress,smell and eat like italians.

@Francesko263 The stereotypes in the United States are indeed based on southern Italians, but it's not true to say that northern and central Italy are vastly different from the south. There are differences in many aspects, yet northern Italy is still much more similar to southern Italy than it is to Germany or the other countries you mentioned. Anche se sono figlio di padre americano e madre lombarda/toscana, sono appassionato del mezzogiorno e stimo ogni meridionale come un mio fratello.

La cosa incredibile è che questi stereotipi americani a forza di film, telefilm, fumetti, clips e americanate varie, stanno attecchendo perfino nella stessa italia. Sta crescendo una generazione di inscemita da Mtv e Hollywood.

@schroff1968 Northern Italy is culturally linked with southern Germany because of Holy Roman Empire and the House of Habsburg. Northern Italy was under lombards who came from southern Germany. The first king of Italy came from southern Germany and there were several marriages between the royal house of Bavaria/Swabia and royal house of Lombardy. South germans are mostly catholic like northern italians. The pope comes from southern Germany. Northern Italy was under House of Habsburg for 150 years

@Francesko263 I can see the connection with southern Germans and northern Italians with just from history. Germanic invasions, the old Holy Roman Empire. etc. I am a German american with my ancestry mainly southern German such as Baden and many people say I look like Sylvester Stallone, the famous Italian american actor. Seems like southern Germans have more in common with northern Italians than northern Germans. Northern Germans have more in common with the Scandinavians.
