Glorious sunshine will bathe the whole country said the weather forecast. Somehow it seemed to escape this part of Leicestershire for the day I spent at the GCR as all filming was done under dull overcast skies. None the less I enjoyed my first visit to the line for some years and thought it was a great gala.
Scenes in part one include;
78019 masquerading as 78054 at Charnwood Water, Woodthorpe and Rothley
71000 'Duke of Gloucester' at Charnwood Water, Woodthorpe and Kinchley Lane
246 'Morayshire' at Woodthorpe (2 views) and Rothley
Thanks to all involved at the GCR for a very enjoyable gala

  • Great video once again my friend. That little 4-4-0 at the end is sweet! And the whistle on the 71000 has a nice sound to it; it's a shame they all don't sound that way!

  • Ha ha, I know you love your whistles. They seem to have changed the tone on 71000 since the 1990's, its shriller than it used to be. The 4-4-0 is based in Scotland, powerful little engines

  • Welcome to cloudy Loughborough Austin. We do have occasional sunshine, but generally only in leap years! We nearly bumped into each other a few times by the looks of your footage!

    Nicely filmed as usual with some excellent camerawork, but next time you should get yourself a lineside pass to take full advantage of all the locations - loads of run pasts for your money as you must now realise! You need a Friends membership to acquire one.

  • Thanks very much Mike, I couldn't believe what a gloomy day that was, thankfully enlivened by the numerous trains. I am currently in the process of applying for membership and a lineside pass so by the next event will be able to venture to some better spots. If it's horrible grey weather for the Winter Gala you will know who to blame!

  • Suberp video Austin, what type of camera do you use, because the quality is crystal clear! Thumbs up

  • Thanks Jon, the camera is a Canon HV30.

  • Great video once again my friend.

  • Thanks Chris, yes the lack of sunlight does have certain benefits. In the end we have to take what we get on the day and try and make the best of it.

  • Great filming and locations Austin. I don't think the lack of sun detracts one iota - just leaves you with good natural light and, somehow, a softer image with no harsh contrasts. To my mind it allows the shaded areas (like the motion) to be more easily visible. Great to see (and hear) the Duke in good form too. Chris

  • Cheers John, trust me to visit on the cloudy day though, the Snday was sunny!
