I agree with Oddbank. Eugene is a wonderful man and a very accomplished musician. We recorded him a bit in the studio and we recorded his show earlier this week.

He knows a lot about life, music and good food, so he's pretty good in my books.

The guy is CONSTANTLY retuning on the fly, so I'll bet he uses a variety.

Obviously you haven't seen Eugene play Coltrane, Dolphy, Monk, Sun Ra, etc. As far as "rockstar wannabe", were you even paying attention to what he said in this interview?

you are right i havnt, that is not the point of my commnet. The point is he is in no way a pioner in this kind of music, and saying himself that he is a pioner or believing so is just selfish.

One thing that I learned hanging out/playing with/listening to Eugene Chadbourne is that he's a classic troubadorian, story-telling, entertainer. Anyone can appreciate his music unless you are a snob, then maybe you'll dig some stuff...

There's a good-sized "mad scientist" streak in him, too. Personally, I think Phil Ochs, Ben Franklin and Spike Jones' DNA were combined in a laboratory to form a baby that was then shown horror movies for 20 years and then given guitar lessons.
