For the last video of this series I would like to present another great musician from the swing era : Horst Winter (1914 - 2001) who not only played the clarinet but also was a vocalist for a number of orchestras, for example in Willy Berking's band... From 1941 he formed his own band and recorded for the Tempo label... Usually he combined one well known track with a lesser known jazzy title (often pushing the limit of what was acceptable in the eyes of the Reichsmusikkammer). He pushed the enveloppe to far when his version of "Joseph! Joseph! / Sie will nicht Blumen und nicht Schokolade"
was forbidden. In 1943 he was drafted into the army and became a prisoner of war in France. He settled in Vienna, where he founded the "Wiener Tanzorchester" in 1946. From 1950 onwards he conducted his "Horst Winter Tanzorchester". He went on numerous tours (even to the USA) and was the recipient of many awards. Heremained active until a few months before his death.

"Und wieder geht ein schöner Tag zu Ende" is not a swing title but - again- a rather melancholic slow which in translation means "Another beautiful day has ended". I had the luxury of choosing between 2 versions : the one by Horst Winter and the one by Swedish singer Sven-Olof Sandberg which is perhaps the best known version. I deciced to present Horst Winter first as part of this series. The Sandberg version will be presented in the future.

An alternate version is the one by Lale Andersen which can be found on YouTube.

The theme of the video is saying goodbye, with sequences from "Traummusik", "Auf Wiedersehen, Franziska" and "Bal Paré".

Although this is the last video of this series, this does not mean the "Swing from Berlin" presentations haven ended. They will be continued however after 15 videos in a row it is time to focus on swing music from other countries.
