These songs make me cry - they are sung with such passion you don't hear anymore. I'm 55 years young and it takes me back to the times when my nan used to play the piano in her front room and I would sit and watch all my relatives sing to these old songs - timeless!

its so good to know the youngsters are listening to great old music.....its certain to put them in a better frame of mind than most modern stuff!........like some old comedy!

Just to say I'm a teenager. I listen mostly to this, and the "newest" music I listen to is from the early 70's. WHAT HAPPENED TO GOOD MUSIC?

I've heard several versions of this song, but most of them were the same. This one is a bit different. Can someone help me with finding the correct lyrics for this version? Do you know where I can pick this up for myself? Ebay?

My Dad introduced me to Al Jolson. I loved his voice and songs. They always remind me of my dear Dad...x

Wow! This recording brings back vivid memories when I was a 7 year old boy in Limerick City Ireland, 62 years ago!

I believe Louis Amstrong imitated Jolson's phrasing - Jolson recorded first c. 1911. Not saying Arnstrong isn't the true King of Jazz.

Born in '51, too! Discovered Jolson around 1961. Still collecting his music!!!

My dad loved him and me and my brother and 2 sisters grew up singing his records. Absolute quality!!!

@nedarc I so agree with you !
Born in 1951, I was introduced to this incredible voice of Al Jolson. Sadly, as years pass, so many of the younger generation lose out of listening to these fantastic vocals, mainly through lack of good musical education.

My Dad was born in 1915 in St Louis Mo. He was a world traveler exposed to many musical cultures....His favorite singer was Al Jolson. I grew up in the 50's & 60's listning to his music on the old '78's'. I am now in my fifty's and need a Jolson fix at least once a week, or I go CRAZY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
