Please bear with me, but I read most of Goulds Biography, and he said that he hated Mozart's Piano Sonatas and only recorded them out of obligation. Then he records them and they are magnificient. Remember he was "eccentric" (wasn't he?) He hated Chopin but (if I remember correctly he played a legendary performance of his piano Sonata in B Minor. that was never recorded (someone correct me if I am wrong here.) So he gives great performances
of music he hates? Why.? Who knows? He was out there
I'm surprised that so many people like this recording. It is completely detached, lacking of any type of phrasing, and truly missing the sublimity that is Mozart. Glen Gould HATED Mozart and he purposely recorded these sonatas like this to prove how "bad" Mozart is. This is NOT good musicianship! If you like Gould, listen to his Bach, but NOT his Mozart!!!
His original Goldberg (Gouldberg) is better, by a bunch. For anyone who's interested, there is a good special on Gould on Netflix currently.

While significantly better than I can ever hope to do, his feminine cadences could be improved, as they are so crucial in the music of Mozart.

Anyway, I believe that if Mozart could hear this, he would say, "Spendid! Well done...but why
does he hum??"

It just irks me to read stupid comments about how Glenn Gould hated Mozart etc. He would not have played his brilliant music!

How brilliant! I wish I was able to attend one of his concert. He was one of a kind!
