Pity about this video. The first part was actually very good but then the videographer spoiled it with his hidden camera tactics and not so funny antics toward the end. The lion dance, drums and firecrackers are all part of the New Year festivities and always well-received by both tourists and inhabitants. Too bad about the profanity and the juvenile behaviour in the video. It spoiled a very realistic and ritualistic occasion. This video is not suitable now for forwarding on.

Thanks for yout input, but you miss the idea. If you want to watch beautiful scenes, go see National Geographic Explorer. These videos are intended to show the stupid bullshit encountered while backpacking. The world is a complex place, full of beauty and crap. Why hide the crap?
That hotel owner is a dishonest piece of garbage and lies to his guests. Others need to know to stand up for themselves.
Have a nice day.

Funny you should ask... I don't know! I have been trying to figure it out, but no one seems to be able to answer. I thought the lion was a positive figure in the Chinese mythology. Does anyone here know what that's all about?
(Naturally, it is also possible that they are doing it just for shits and giggles. I mean, you know that if Derek was wearing a costume and I had 20kg of firecrackers, I sure as hell would be blasting him!)
