This clip is from "The Dick Clark Show" dated 2-14-58. This was the premiere episode of the series. Look closely and you can see Dick run down the aisle to repo himself for the act after JLL. The show was sponsored by Beechnut game who handed out free gum to all the kids as well as buttons that said "IFIC" as in "Terrific!" . I remember reading somewhere that although artists were encouraged or even required to lip-sync their performances on American Bandstand, there were a few exceptions. Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and a few other actually demanded that they be allowed to perform live, and outright refused to lip-sync and mime their performances. I can't say whether or not this clip was actually from American Bandstand, but it very well could be. Jerry Lee did apparently sing live on his AB performance!

People like Jerry Lee come along once in a century. I wish the scandal hadn't dogged him so hard. Personal problems aside he is still a super star and changed rock and roll music forever. That's the force of his divine gift, which I believe it is. I hope Jerry reads these comments so he will know how much people love his talent!
