This is a 20 gallon long tank in which we breed White Calvus. This fish is from the African Rift Lake Tanganika. Its body shape has made it popular among aquarists.
These fish prefer to breed in shells where they brood their eggs. Both parents will stand guard at the shell during the brooding process. We recently took the gravel out from the bottom to better accomodate the fry once they emerge from the shell.

  • Oh mate, your female don't look to happy in the corner... Beautiful Male though! :) Goodluck!

I have two Altolamprologus Compressiceps, I'm thinking one is male and one is female, any tips on breeding them? and what size they have to be? Thanks

  • @T4CTiC4L3Pr0 there are 2 females one was in the shell protecting her eggs... the other female is in the corner cuz she knows not to mess with them when they have laid eggs :).. both females bred frequently but the male did prefer one over the other which they say is normal...

  • @T4CTiC4L3Pr0 they say a small tank like a 20 gallon works best thats what we did and it worked..Also, make sure the shell is small enough that the male cant get in it cause he will eat the eggs. A lot of times you wont see them spawning so if you notice them guarding the shell a lot that could mean babies r in there... what a couple weeks then take the shell out and dump it into a breeder basket or another tank to grow the fry out in cause they will eat the fry..

  • @T4CTiC4L3Pr0 or if your not sure how developed the fry are, you can take the female and the shell out and put in a different tank she will protect them while they r little then once you see the fry starting to come out of the shell you can put the female back with the male...

  • @greenearthlawns Thanks Very, very much! :D your information has helped me a great deal! :D be nice to see a video of the fry once they come about :) I wish you the best of luck! Thanks,
