Ok dumb question, did Smackdown used to get taped on Tuesdays back then too? If so, I'm assuming since 9/11 was Tuesday, that this Smackdown taped on Thursday then (which is when it used to air?)

What I'm getting at is surely they didn't tape this the day of 9/11, obviously. Right?

@FrankGarrett316 Smackdown was Thursday at this time, and rather than showing a taped raw from 9/11, they did a live version of Smackdown on 9/13. The fact that this was all live, and not pre-taped, makes this clip that much more spontaneously perfect in every way.

@FrankGarrett316 They did tape it on Tuesdays back then. Every once in a while, they would do a live show as a gimmick. Because of the tragedy, obviously Vince canceled the taping, but he wouldn't cancel the whole show that week. So it became a live show that Thursday. I remember watching this live and being damn proud to be an American that day. I'm proud again to watch it.

say what you will about Vince or about wrestling being fake. But you got to admit. That guy really knows how to play to the crowd. Watching this years later, I still get goosebumps when he give his speech.
