It's called boosting.

There's 2 types of boosting:

TNT boosters

Piston boosting system.

Pistons are much more efficient,but quite harder to set up.

Where Sid you get the idea to squish the tnts together when they're flashing white before each shot? That seems to be the most powerful type of cannon.
