A ten minute excerpt from the silent video installation, created by Alex Skitolsky.

This material from the Prelinger Archive offers representations of the masculine that seem uniquely exposed. It provides an indirect, historical commentary on the cultural construction of masculinity and also reflects a personal inventory of the four masculine archetypes described in the theories of Carl Jung. In true Jungian fashion, the selection and manipulation of these image fragments became a process of self-analysis.

The video installation was created in correspondence with Jane Hawley's 2008 production of Reign at Luther College and shares many of the structural and conceptual aspects of the performance. The four-panel image sections are organized by their association to the four masculine archetypes: [Sovereign] [Lover] [Magician] [Warrior]
