Bloody Mary's first start up at Prescott since 1963! Bit smokey as a extra oil had been pumped into engines to protect big ends

  • Fantastic car, I have a book with this on the cover! Its a fantastic car and so is the story behind it!

  • I have that book too, and John Bolsters 'Specials' and 'Motoring is my Business' You should get them, lots more of the story behind this car. I see you are also into stationary engines, I picked up a rusty Crossley engine last year, it's currently in bits on my garage floor. I might post some picks up on flickr.

  • It is not one engine but two. They are 981cc JAP KTOR racing V Twin engines from Brough Superior motorcycles. About 120bhp. Built in 1929.

  • @ShelsleySpecial There were several versions of Bloody Mary. The one I would like to have seen had four V-twin engines - one per wheel - with a fifth driving the supercharger for the others. If I remember correctly, it wasn't a success: there was too much trouble keeping all the chains tight, intact and in place.

  • @Erictheirritated

Only four engines to my knowledge but I could be wrong. I can't post a URL to my flickr page on here as it will throw up an error, but if you go to the 'flickr' web page and do a search for 'John Bolster' all the images uploaded by 'shelseyspecial' are mine. There are a few pictures of Johns four engined special on there

  • Dang weird vehicle. The driver is sure wedged in there.

  • thats the aerial atom of 1929.

  • I must admit this a 'beautiful' if little insane car. There were rally Mini s as i understand ran front and rear engines, with seperate transmissions, but were problomatic because a misfire or other change of engine output came to adversly effect handling....not good when your half way round the corner sideways.

  • Can you give us any info on what the engine is? Looks very unusual
