Maybe your teacher as a real bavarian would not know then, that this kind of pastry is called "Berliner" everywhere in Germany, but not in Berlin. We call it "Pfannkuchen". The official name is "Berliner Pfannkuchen". So in Berlin he was neither misunderstood nor laughed at.
