Rocky Zachry of Chicago, IL passed away Friday, August 12th 2011, in Durant OK at the age of 55 years, 8 months and 18 days after an unfortunately brief battle against cancer. He was born on Friday, November 25, 1955, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to William E. and Tommie Laverne (Pittman) Zachry and raised in Southern California along with his sister Renée by his mother Tommie and close to his special Aunt Shug (Patricia Taylor), there he attended school, enjoyed motocross, music, sports, and the ocean and became a journeyman welder at an early age before marrying Bonita Sue Powell in January of 1980 and moving to Irving Texas. In Irving besides confirming and nurturing Rocky's love of everything Dallas Cowboys they started their family with the birth of Desirée Ann in 1981. Rocky and his family continued to live and raise their family in Texas before moving to Chicago IL in the late eighties where he shared his continued love of the Cowboy's with everyone within earshot of any Chicago Bear's game that might be on. Until recently he had continued his welding career, still fanatically enjoyed sports and helped raise his grandson Rocky Lavere to also be a very talented sports player and fan. Rocky is preceded in death by his wife Bonita (Bonnie) in 1998, his grandmother Flossie Taylor, stepfather Soto Armijo, Aunt's: Juanita Winford and Eskie McNees, Uncle's: Clell and Lloyd Potts. Rocky is survived and will be forever missed by his daughter Desirée, grandson Rocky of Elgin IL, Parents; Tommie and Gene Zachry of Durant OK, sister Renée Vogelhut and husband Kevin and family of Valparasio IN, Special aunt Shug (Patricia) Taylor of Banning CA, Brothers: Marty and wife Annie, Tim and Diane, Rusty and wife, Bill and wife, Alan and wife Michele and Brad (Zachry), all from Texas, sister Cindy Harper and husband Chad of Mckinney, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, his special brother in law Barry Powell and many many other friends and families who will take fond memories of knowing Rocky with them forever. Family hour for Rocky will be 7-8 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at the Grace Baptist Church with Bro. Anthony Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Bennington Cemetery,Bennington, Oklahoma with Tim Zachry, Eli Vogelhut, Marty Zachry, Alan Zachry, Kevin Vogelhut and Brad Zachry serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rocky L. Zachry and Barry Powell. Family and friends may send online condolences and view tributes at www.coffeymurray.com. Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant.
