Hello again. I'm sure you're right; I think most parents would sooner take on a disability themselves than have to watch their child go through that. I'm an adult nurse and a mum and I recognise my limits. I wonder if anyone has ever compiled some of the stories of the children and families affected? Those stores now span a generations afterall and it makes me wonder how some of the others have got along with life.

My Name is Ramon Espinosa a 80 year and in the 30's the Polio scare was all over the Newspapers; when my friend told me to go to 411e109 it hit me about that scare many years ago. This is a great Youtube journey' and I thank my friend at Starbucks for sharing this video with me.

I think this is a lovely video that shows SO much in a short time! - I really was engaged with the way you moved the words into the pictures. I think it is a helpful video in that it is positive and I want to thank you for putting it out there!

Great job, Richard
To mscrunchy68: I've written about my own experiences in my autobiography. It is titled "Not Just Polio" and is available on Amazon.com. Another very good book is titled "Twin Voices" by Janice Flood Nichols. Her twin brother contracted polio at the age of six. He died, and day he was buried she got polio.

This is so thoughtfully put together and encapsulates so much experience into a short video. I'm glad to have chanced upon it and would just like to thank you for sharing your story - things like this can be of such help to people who suddenly find their lives changed by illness and/or disability. I had no idea of the appearance of a polio ward - was it helpful or horrifying to be one of so many in rows of iron lungs?

@mscrunchy68 - Thank you for your comments. I'm sure it was much harder for the parents of severely disabled polio patients. Imagine entering a room filled with these large metal cylinders, all making their unique whooshing sounds. All you can see are heads sticking out one end, and you know that one of these heads belongs to your child.
