I guess I'm the only one who finds them endearing and nostalgic, not creepy. Even as a child I knew they were just robots, and yet they also seemed very "real" to me. As a teen I had the opportunity to work on one of their partially dismantled metal skeletons in a classroom setting, and it was fascinating if a bit sad to see an icon of my childhood torn apart in that way.
