Brought back memories. My dad Red Sharp was hauling water then into cementing. We moved to Ohio he had several cabletools and a rotary. Enjoyed my summers learning alot from him. I finally retired from it. To damn much regulations. But would lay my money on a roughneck from the old school then some of these wannabes of today.

I would echo west texas hooligan, Brought back some memories of many people, a lot of whom are gone. the old sill rig running on propane. I worked at Pratt for a short while back in the 1960's and i do remember an austin, 2 brothers named Pugh, a Steinert and a Sheldon. A Roberts who worked for Garvey or Sierra also. I remember the old Dart sitting at the Southwestern truck yard a long time back and did look at it once. RC Williams had a yard on K-61 not far from the truck stop at one time A+

Watching this vid has really spooked me as this could have been from my own childhood. The similarities are unsettling to say the least. I thought I was the only kid that grew up on an old double pole service rig. Now that I think about it I may yard our current unit and find another old double pole just so my kid can see what it was like lol. Thanks a ton for posting these movies. My dad is watching it now and I can swear I see a tear in his old eyes.

@carlyaustin1 Well sorry for the loss of your grand dad Some people would say he died with his boots on.

can somebody tells me where is the drilling platform forty delta

Hate to burst your bubble but todays trucks put those trucks to shame. Our rigs today are heavier, longer, wider, and much more complicated.

man everything back then was friken H.D. im pretty sure no truck made today can do what those ones where doing!!!!
-
he set that front end of that bed truck down smooth like butter.... that was some nice winching

What fun.
My mom has a bunch of these 8mm oil rig films. I think my Grandfather took a bunch of the films, my mom even still had the camera he took them on. My grandfather was in the oil rig business in Pratt, Kansas and worked for RC Williams. My grandfather actually died of a heart attack while he was out on a rig in 1973? Do you happen to know who the guys are in this video? thanks

Wow! Regarding the opening shots, all that heavy equipment suspended from the derrick and no one below is wearing a hardhat! Great to hear about the Dart truck that's being restored.

Everyone was tougher in the old days! HAHA! I like in the movie they are all smoking around the derrick too!

I'm from Pratt and grew up in the oilfield there. What rigs were shown in the video? Looked like an old Shield's rotary?? Curious.
I've seen that old RC Williams tandem before junked out. Good video.
