clever send up of society's consumerist values. The hilarity of the lyrics coupled with the ridiculous scenes help to convey the point: we have become completely dictated by the consumer culture.

But what does it matter? We're all going to "buy, buy, buy" anyway.

nice job.

I honestly don't know what to say. Bottom line though, is that we buy what we want. It's human nature. If we can afford to be excessive, so be it. If we can't, then we have to find a way to live in moderation.

Rich people and big corporations and government and advertising and social pressure are not the reasons why we decide to buy things. It comes down to US. WE decide what we buy, not anyone else.

Human nature? I'm sure that neanderthals were thinking "Damn... if I could only exchange some sort of currency for Trog's sharp stick!"

While it's true that the self is a factor in deciding to buy things, no one is saying that corporations and advertisements are holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy - they make conspicuous consumption look attractive and necessary, when it's mostly really just accoutrement and fluff.

I notice that the stupid American consumer pulls a scam on the poor banker who can only afford a construction paper mustache.
Wait a minute, something is wrong with this picture.

Well then they should see things as it is instead of looking for a scapegoat.
