In two years, the people who believed and bought into this philosophy are going to be in the ditches, grubbing for food.

It can't last; and it's ending already. I really am going to enjoy seeing these scum bags hit the dirt.

Human nature? I'm sure that neanderthals were thinking "Damn... if I could only exchange some sort of currency for Trog's sharp stick!"

While it's true that the self is a factor in deciding to buy things, no one is saying that corporations and advertisements are holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy - they make conspicuous consumption look attractive and necessary, when it's mostly really just accoutrement and fluff.
