I do this "amazing", "raw", and "off the chain" rap in Spanish class to help kids remember when to use the verbs ser and estar. This is the studio version, so the audio doesn't line up perfectly. Enjoy.

Lyrics:
You gotta NOTICE ser and put estar in its PLACE
So remember that if ya wanna run this race
You gotta NOTICE ser and put estar in its PLACE
So remember that if ya wanna run this race

N is nationality, where you from
O is for origin, from where you come or for material, of what its made
T is for time, what time of the day
I is identity, who are you whats your religion, profession, tell me what you do
C is characteristic like small
E is event and where it happens yall

You gotta NOTICE ser and put estar in its PLACE
So remember that if ya wanna run this race
You gotta NOTICE ser and put estar in its PLACE
So remember that if ya wanna run this race

P is place, L is location
A is for action, its whats being done
C is condition, keeping it real
E is emotion, how do you feel

  • Instead of having you make raps in English, your teacher should actually teach you how to actually pronounce "ser" and "estar"

  • Its helpful. But a little hard to understand

  • (Continued) To identify the material of which something is made, with the preposition de. To say where an event takes place. Uses of estar: to express the location of persons, animals, or object. To comment on or describe states of health. To emphasize that an action or event is in progress (estar + present participle). In certain expressions with the preposition de. (estar de acuerdo) (estar de buen/mal humor) (esatar de espaldas) (estar de frente) etc.

  • Good vid. It would also be helpful to list the actual rules in addition to the rap. Feel free to add this post to your video description. Uses of ser - ser has various functions in communication. Here are the most common: to identify people, places or objects. To tell time and to say when an event occurs. To express the nationality and place of origin of a person or object. To state a person's profession or occupation. To express possession, with the preposition de.

  • i understand now.... O__O lol love it!
