Josh Puskarich, 1st dan, folds his hakama after class at Shobu Aikido of Boston. The hakama is a traditional garment that is also worn by students of aikido - they have 7 pleats representing the seven virtues of bushido. Though practices vary across aikido schools, at our dojo, students wear the hakama after passing their first test and attaining the rank of 6th kyu.
