Show Opening from 14 Dec 1960

Meredith Willson wrote the song in 1951. Perry Como had the first hit, recording it with The Fontane Sisters and the Mitchell Ayres Orchestra.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five and ten glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in ev'ry store
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

  • How i would love to see the Perry Como "Christmas in Small Town Vermont" show. The one with Art Carney, the Muppets, and Joey Heatherton (at an older age). I think it was the best one and have never been able to find it anywhere. But I did enjoy this one, too. Christmas has never been the same since they discontinied the Perry Como Christimas shows. Oh, for the reruns on those!!!

  • @meileen1942 That show aired Dec 4, 1972 and was called "The Perry Como Winter Show". I don't have it but maybe this will help you in your search.

  • @meileen1942

    It's a show that I happen to have, as I recorded it when it originally aired! It is a fun show to watch...let me know if you're interested in a copy.

  • @martiniharry Amazing! Was it in U-Matic format?

  • @MrCallipygous Yes, in fact it is in U-Matic!

  • @martiniharry Cool! For the curious, U-Matic was the first cassette video format for the home market. It was introduced by Sony in 1971 and I think it was about $1500. This doesn't sound too bad, but in today's dollars it would be $7000 or $8000! Not many homes could afford it, but many companies and schools bought them.

  • @meileen1942 Yes, I have it....it is currently in my storage unit, with many other items; I have to dig it out, and will advise when I'm able to make a copy!

  • @martiniharry

    Do you really have a copy of it and would you be able to copy it? Would dearly to love to get it. Please let me know.

    There's a website called Sell.com that has a few dealers that have Perry Como's Christmas specials plus tons of others.

  • My sister found a TV guide site for description, but it evidently is not available to view. Too bad. But I did enjoy this clip. Thanks. I recently went to the Merry Como Christmas in Mishawaka, IN, which is put on my Perry's daughter-in-law, two granddaughters, and two great grandchildren. The talent has been passed on, but still miss Perry.
