Scandalizing historians with its blithe disregard for the historical record, this American Civil War docudrama poses the theory that President Lincoln's Secretary of War, Edward Stanton, was behind a plot to kill him at Ford's Theater. His motive was his opposition to Lincoln's adamant refusal to allow the North to punish the South for its actions. The "official" assassination goes awry when another would-be assassin, the second-rate actor John Wilkes Booth, learns of the plot and decides to beat the government to the punch, for reasons of his own. In the movie, it is Stanton's assassin who is mistakenly captured and killed, rather than Booth.

  • @MrDavito2 Yes it is

  • Where's the rest of the film?

  • Politicians do the same thing today. They hide the evidence of their criminal and treasonous acts as matters of "national security".

  • I think the guy playing Lewis Powell looks too boyish like Bud Cort or something!

  • I know Stanton's relatives found pages of Booths diary, in Stanton's attic. I don't know if it was the full 18 pages or not, But Stanton was involved in the conspiracy. Nothing new there. lol

  • 7:04 LOL....such a serious narrator.....so campy XD ....I saw this in jr. high.

They should make a movie about Stanton and Baker's gay love affair and Stanton's role in his murder.....it's just about as believable as this conspiracy theory.

  • The Lincoln Conspiracy is now own by CBS Television Distribution, since this was a TV movie.

  • was that gopher from the loveboat who got hanged?

  • @FilmCriticOne Haha! The word bullshit is exactly what I exclaimed at the end of the movie. And Star Wars is real...in a galaxy far far away. ;)

  • Stanton had a very darkside.Undoubtful,he was a fiercely antislavery and pro Union advocate, but he was the first lawyer to obtain his client absolved in a murder trial for reason of temporary insanity. His client performed laterquite honorably as a Union general.I amsurethat Stantonplottedto Lincoln's kidnaping just in order to take harsher attitudes againstSouthern rebels. But the egotistic actortook the decision on his own to murderthe president and Stanton had to cover up his involvement
