Fifty spaceships, each three miles across, hover ominously above Earth's major cities. The Visitors that emerge are humanlike in appearance and extend the hand of friendship. Our planet's resources are just what these aliens need to survive. And for it's future survival, unsuspecting humankind will need... a miracle!

  • Oh yeah, and quick calculation. The world oceans have about 1500 million cu km of water. If each ship were a sphere 3miles (~5km) wide it would take roughly 5 million ships to clear all our water. Sirius is over 10 million million km (8ly) away. So the total distance travelled for our water is ~100 million million million km. Makes me thirsty!

  • umm... big gaping hole in the plot. Water is a concern for us because we can't leave our planets. But for interplanetary space beings, water is not in short supply. And it is renewable or can be synthesized from hydrogen and oxygen - which are even more abundant. but sure (or maybe alien is still lying. dun dun dun!)

  • FRANK ASHMORE!! you go buddy!!!!

youtube can check him out in my channel under "stealing home" or just search under jonathanvons and you'll find it!! :)

  • no in the entire universe. It's the most common chemical in existance. No maybe they are one of the rare planets with little water even though life probably would not have evolved on such a place, but since they are from so far away so wouldn't there be a more convenient place to get water than sol? One closer that wouldn't require military action?

  • .....in our solar system.

  • Actually, Kenneth Johnson's original idea was very much to do with a fascist takeover, much in the same vein as Sinclair Lewis's book 'It Can't Happen Here'. The science fiction window-dressing came later.

  • He's a scientist! GET HIM!!!

  • @p717 your reading alot into a 20 year old show aimed at 12 to 15 year old boys

  • Yeah it's a weak plot subtext, but this movie only used science fiction as a setting. The context was showing just how vulnerable a modern, multicultural society is to being taken over by authoritarianism. The water mining represents the rape of the environment, and the harvesting of humans represents how human labor is exploited and cannibalized by hyper-industrialist states and corporations.

  • Thats true!!! I was thinking that too

But since our planet has been isolated, then mainstream understanding is incomplete.

Water is super special!!! But quite common :)

  • hahaha, yeah that's the eighties for us.

  • Notice the chemical they manufacture from human waste products, they just spray it all over the sky. And the guy says it's just a "smokescreen". :)

    =Chemtrails!
