Another cab ride on CSX, this one even better than the last. =D This is CSXT 2475, the first in a series of SD50's to be derated to 3,000 horsepower(from 3,500) in an attempt to reduce fuel consumption. The new locos are designated SD50-2. I get to hear the engineer start the locomotive, then ride around as he's forming a train from two sidings nearby. It was a really cool experience. Warning: Mild language from the engineer. Haha. XD

  • I love it when you say.......Oh..man.....that says it all.

  • Indeed...was the first time I ever heard my favorite engine type that up close and personal...the EMD 16-645F3B. I was ecstatic. :D

  • So are you going to become a train driver now.....or are you going to stay a railfan?

  • I would like to be an engineer for a shortline or museum/tourist operation, but I won't work for a Class I railroad. :3

  • ''I used to railfan myself till I got this fuckin job''...EPIC

  • That's a rush, isn't it? I remember back in the early 90s, I used to railfan the SP around Mesa, AZ and at the time my favorite locomotive type was (and really still is) a GP60. I got a few cab rides aboard GP40-2s, but I will never forget the time the engineer turned the control stand on that GP60 (SP 9721) over to me for 15 minutes in 1992 ...

  • I swear man, you always have the best vids! We've got a CSX line that runs right behind my job and I'll usually go out there and watch as they pass by. Every now and again, they'll stop. That's my chance to talk to the engineers a bit, but I was never invited inside the cab!

  • You lucky dog!

  • Either close the battery knife switch (located inside the cab, on the back wall, used when cold starting) or turn the start switch to 'prime' (located inside the engine compartment, on the right side).

  • @SpeakerPolice So what did the engineer do to set it off exactly?

  • That's the system alerter. It's telling anyone that might have their hands/arms/etc. in a compromising position in the engine compartment, radiator fan shroud, etc. to remove them before the engine cranks. x3

  • Whats with the beeping after he goes to "wake her up"?
