I don't know why the urge to point out Maynard as a religious person. Yes this song is about his mother going to heaven but the lyrics are ambiguous and also point out some critics/sarcasm to religion:

"Listen to the -tales- and -romanticize-," and "-Shake your fists- at the gates saying:.." is self explanatory.

p.s. either way, if Maynard is or is not religious that wont change the fact that he is a very talented musician.

@batmannrobbie true, there can be faith in a god with taking part in any religion (Deism) the same way someone can be religious without believing in a God (Budism). Eitherway, i made that comment as a response to some users who where saying that "this song is a clear proof that Maynard is not an arrogant atheist anymore and he now is a new born christian."
