Greg Fleming & The Trains 'Codeine Road'
Greg Fleming is a singer/songwriter/writer from Auckland, New Zealand.
'Codeine Road'' was a single by Greg Fleming & The Trains, released in May 1994 on Lost Records (an offshoot of Kane Massey's Deepgrooves label).
This version was a reworked version of the track which appeared on Greg Fleming & The Trains debut album Ghosts Are White, released in 1994.
The track was produced and reworked by Anthony Ioasa who produced several tracks for Deepegrooves artists as well as Grace, his own group at the time (also on Deepgrooves).
The 'Codeine Road' video was directed by Bruce Sheridan of Stratford Productions and shot along Auckland's Karangahape Road, at the time a busy mix of cafes, bars and sex shops, somewhat removed from today's more sedate version. Greg is filmed singing with some of the regular street people of the area. Also featured members of the Trains band at the time - drummer Ricky McShane, Bass player Cameron Miller and guitarist John Segovia.
Ricky and John continued in the Trains band up until Greg went solo in late 1996.
Cameron, a Scottish national, moved to the UK in 1995 and went on to play with Mike Scott of the Waterboys.
He was replaced by Andrew B. White in 1995 along with Dominic Blazaar on keyboards.
Ricky, an original member of late 80s Flying Nun band Chainsaw Masochist, did not play on the Ghosts Are White album. He is currently the drummer for Arch Hill Records' Black Swan White Swan.
John Segovia played guitar on the Ghosts Are White album and now plays with Don McGlashan and the Seven Sisters (with Dominic Blazaar who also plays with SJD).
The original lineup of the Trains included Stuart Broughton (Supergoove manager) on drums, Nick Chrysler (Pet Rocks) on bass and Mark Peterson (Straitjacket Fits) on guitar.
