Like the New Midnight Express, the New Razor Ramon, and the new Diesel. Tommy Rich and Eddie Gilbert had little success as the New Fabulous Ones.

It's easy to trash the concept of the New Fabs but Gilbert & Rich did have good matches during their 1984 tag run. Take this one for example against the PYT Express of Norvell Austin and Stagger Lee (aka Koko B. Ware). The Fabs and the PYTs feuded throughout 1984 and many of the matches were wild all over the arena brawls. Typical Memphis fun.

  • THE NEW FABULOUS ONES WERE SUCESSFUL I MEAN THEY WERE TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR. IF THEY WOULD'VE STAYED TOGETHER THEY COULD'VE BEEN ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREAT TAG TEAMS.

  • Rich & Gilbert were talented enough, but just slapping the name "Fabulous Ones" on them after everyone was already so accustomed to Keirn & Lane...I'm just not surprised at all that the gimmick failed.

  • It seemed like when they teamed in NWA it was more like the fefd didn't have anything for either of them so they threw them together.

  • You are right. The Fabs were still the Fabs, and this was in the same territory where they were the top tag team.

On top of that, they used Tommy Rich who had been a huge star on TBS for years before this.

I think the comparisons to the new Diesl and Razor Ramon were good ones. It was the same company that created the gimmicks and made them stars, and when the wrestlers left, they replaced them to show that they had "created them" and woulld do it again.

  • The Rich and Gilbert team could've been legendary if they did'nt use the Fab's name.

    The Fabs was still active.

Its not like it was the "Hollywood Blondes" which was recycled over and over.

  • yessir I was there too!

  • Nashville, TN baby! I spent many a Saturday night in that building. Thanks for this clip!

  • Great match. Rich is "on fire", bleeding and throwing the right hand. Looks like some stiff shots, Ware was truly a tough guy. He could shoot on anybody if needed, Koko was the real deal.

  • I think the correct thing to say would be, anything re-done, does not work. This is great. Alot better than when NWA would team up EG and TR.

  • Come on, "new" Coke was fabulous!
